Ekadashi
Ekadashi occurs on the 11th day of each period (twice a month).(Ekadasha means Eleven)
 
Makar Sankrati
Makar Sankranti marks the commencemnet of the sun's journey to the Northen Hemisphere and is a day of celebration all over the country. In Gujarat, brightly coloured kites are flown in celebration of Makara Sankranti
 
Vasant Panchami
This is the day Lord Swaminarayan presented the 'Shikshapatri' in its final form. It is also the day to honour Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning and Wisdom.
 
Shivratri
This is a festival in honour of Lord Shiva. Devotees fast during the day and maintain a long vigil during the night.

Holi
Holi celebrates the arrival of spring. On the day people celebrate with colour , i.e. from gentle smearing of colour powder on the face to liberal spraying of coloured water. Holi is also celebrated to mark the burning of the evil demon Holika.
 
Matsya Jayanti
Matsya the Fish, is the first manifestation of Vishnu in the course of the Deluge: He saved humanity's forebears from the flood.
 
Ramnavmi, Lord Swaminarayan's Birthday
Ramnavmi marks the birthday of Rama. It also the birthday of Lord Swaminarayan. Devotees fast during the day and attend temple to recite religous hymns.
 
Mahavir Jayanti
The main Jain festival of the year is Mahavira Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahavira, the founder of Jainism
 
Hanuman Jayanti
On the full moon day of chaitra a festival is arranged in the temple to celebrate Hanuman's birth.
 
Jaganaath Rath Yatra
Annual festival where the images of Jagannath, another name for Krishna, his brother Balbhadra and his sister, Subhadra are taken out in a procession.
 
Parshuram Jayanti
The birthday of Parshuram, or Parshuram Jayanti, is cel-ebrated on the 3rd day of the bright half of Vaishakh month
 
Akshey Tritya
The third day(Tritiya) of the waxing moon(shukl paksh) of Baisakh is an auspicious day it is believed that the Satyug and the Treta Yug both began on this day.
 
Narsimha Jayanti
The fourth Avatar of Vishnu who took the form of half man half lion to kill the demon Hiranyakashipu, the father of Prahlad
 
Kurma Jayanti
The second avatar of Vishnu. Kurma, the Tortoise, was used for support to mount Mandara, as a churn dasher, when the devas and the asuras churned the ocean
 
Buddha Purnima
Ninth avatar of Vishnu
 
Devpodhi Ekadashi
This is the day when Vishnu is supposed to retire for four months, to wake up four months later on Prabodhini Ekadashi in the Kartik month. This period is known as Chaturmas where extra devotional penances (neem) are undertaken.
 
Hindola
A swing is made and is decorated with flowers and hangings. Every night for a month the idol of Lord Krishna is placed on it and swung, rejoining with the singing of a special metre the 'hindola'. The main purpose is to please Krishna to gain his blessings and merit.
 
Kalki Jayanti
Tenth avatar of Vishnu who will appear the end of the eon, when corruption is beyond every measure of control, necessitating the end of the world
 
Raksha Bandhan
The festival celebrates the affection between brother and sister. Sisters tie a rakhee (coloured thread) around their brothers' wrists, to keep away evil influences. Brothers give gifts in return.
 
Naag Pancham
According to the Hindu mythology, the Lord Vishnu is shielded under the hood of a cobra and so the snake has been an object of devotion in India for a longtime
 
Janmashtami
Janmashtami takes place on the eight day of the waning moon, in month of Shravan. It is the birthday of Lord Krishna who was born at midnight. The birthday of Lord Krishna.
 
Varah Jayanti
The third avatar of Vishnu. Varaha, the Boar, is the allegory of the re-establishment of the wolrd after Pralaya-Deluge.
 
Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh the god of wisdom and prosperity on the fourth day of Bhadra.
 
Vaman Jayanti
Birthday of Vaman. The fifth avatar of lord Vishnu. Vishnu took the form of a dwarf (Vaman) to push down the powerful King Bali to the netherworld.
 
Dussehra/Vijaya Dashmi
Dussehra means the Tenth Day, being the 10th day of the bright half of Ashvin. This day is also known as Vijayadashmi, because of the Victory of Rama over Ravana.
 
Dhan Teras
On Dhantrayodashi ("Dhan" = wealth; "Trayodashi" = thirteenth Day) people clean the portion in front of the house and with powders of different colours make beautiful designs on the ground called "rangoli".
 
Lakshmi Pujan
This day commerates the day Vaman liberated Lakshmi from King Bali. On this day the liberation of Laxmi is celebrated by worshipping Laxmi. Shopkeepers and merchants worship their account books.
 
Diwali
Diwali is the festival of Lights symbolising the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness. The festival commemorates Lord Rama's return to his kingdon Ayodhya after completing his 14 year exile.
 
Annakut
This day marks Govardhan Pujan. It is the day when all kind of dishes are offered to the gods.
 
Bhai Beej/Bhai Dooj
This day all sisters show their sisterly love for their brothers by inviting them to dine at their house.
 
Prabodhini Ekadashi
This is the day when Vishnu awake from his retirement.The last day of the four months of extra penances undertaken by followers. (see Devphodi Ekadashi)
 
Tulsi Vivah

This day commemorates Lord Krisna's wedding with Rukmini. Rukmini was the avatar of Vrinda of whom was the consort of Jalandhar.
